Unlocking Knowledge: 12 Free Methods to Access Pay-walled Content Without a Subscription

Best Free methods to Access website content like news without subscribing

Unlock Website content Free without subscription

Introduction:

In an era where digital media dominates, many reputable news sources have implemented paywalls, limiting access to valuable information. Subscribing to multiple services can become financially burdensome, but fear not! We've compiled a thorough guide detailing 12 effective methods to access paywalled content without a subscription.

1. Open the Article in Incognito Mode:

The simplest method involves opening links in incognito mode to prevent websites from tracking your browsing history and imposing article limits. Right-click a link and select 'Open link in an incognito window' or use Ctrl+Shift+N for quick access.

2. Reset Browser Cookies:

For those uncomfortable with incognito mode, resetting browser cookies accomplishes a similar goal. In Chrome, click the three dots, select 'More tools,' and choose 'Clear browsing data' in the advanced tab. Clear all cookies to reset article counts.

3. Use a VPN:

Change your IP address by utilizing a Virtual Private Network (VPN). This masks your location and helps bypass article limits. Numerous free and paid VPN services are available online; check out our top 10 VPN services for secure and anonymous browsing.

4. Use Postlight Reader for Chrome:

Formerly known as 'Mercury Reader,' the Postlight Reader Chrome extension declutters articles and removes paywalls. Add the extension, navigate to the desired article, and select 'Open in Postlight Reader' from the Extensions icon.

5. Use 12ft Ladder to Unlock Any Article:

When traditional methods fail, 12ft Ladder comes to the rescue. Visit https://12ft.io/, paste the paywalled article link, and click 'Remove paywall.' Refresh the article tab for unrestricted access.

6. Use Sci-hub to Read Articles Without a Subscription:

Access academic journals and research papers without subscribing using Sci-hub. Copy the article link or DOI code, paste it on Sci-hub's website, and click 'Open' to unlock the content.

7. Use Your Library Account:

Leverage your local library membership to access a wealth of paid content. Many libraries subscribe to leading newspapers, journals, and magazines. Sign in using your library account to unlock articles.

8. Use the Wayback Machine:

Explore Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, a repository of billions of archived pages. Visit the websites of major newspapers to find and read articles without encountering a paywall.

9. Search for the Headline on Google:

Paste the article headline on Google to discover mirrored content from various sources that offer free access. If the exact article isn't found, look for the same story from alternative, free-to-read sources.

10. Use Reader Mode on Safari:

If you're an iPhone or Mac user, activate Reader Mode on Safari. This feature eliminates clutter, hides ads, and, for some websites, removes the paywall.
Here's how you can enable Reader Mode on MacBooks:
  • Open Safari and navigate to the page you want to read.
  • Click on the Reader Mode icon on the right side of the address bar. (Note: The icon looks like a small box with horizontal stripes.)
  • Wait for Safari to reformat the page for easy reading.
  •  Open the article and click the reader icon in the address bar.

11. Save the Article as a PDF:

On certain websites, saving an article as a PDF can bypass paywalls. Open the article on your PC's web browser, press Ctrl+P, select 'Save as PDF,' and click 'Save.'

12. Disable JavaScript:

Prevent paywall pop-ups by disabling JavaScript. In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > JavaScript. Add the website URL under 'Not allowed to use JavaScript' for uninterrupted access.

Conclusion:
With these 12 proven methods, accessing paywalled content without a subscription becomes a breeze. From VPNs to browser settings, these techniques cover a broad spectrum of websites and journal libraries. Share your success stories in the comments, and empower others to break free from paywall constraints. Unlock a world of knowledge today!

How to use ChatGPT?

How to use ChatGPT?

AI and ML have been the buzz words for a while now and so many interesting usage has been found using these. Before we start, let's learn a bit about , what is AI, OpenAI and ML.

Artificial intelligence (AI)
refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think and learn like humans. AI can be divided into two categories: narrow or weak AI, which is designed to perform a specific task, and general or strong AI, which has the ability to perform any intellectual task that a human can.  Examples of narrow AI include Siri, Alexa, and self-driving cars, which are designed to perform specific tasks such as recognizing speech, answering questions, and navigating roads. Strong AI, on the other hand, is still in the early stages of development and is the type of AI that can think and learn like a human. It has the potential to revolutionize many industries and change the way we live our lives.  Some of the key technologies that are used to develop AI include machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics.

OpenAI is an artificial intelligence research laboratory consisting of the for-profit OpenAI LP and its parent company, the non-profit OpenAI Inc. The company is focused on developing and promoting friendly AI in a way that benefits all of humanity. They have developed a number of widely-used AI technologies, such as the GPT natural language processing model. OpenAI's mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity.

Machine learning (ML) is a subfield of artificial intelligence that gives systems the ability to learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed. It involves the use of algorithms and statistical models that enable a system to automatically improve its performance with experience.  There are different types of machine learning, including:  Supervised learning: where the system is trained on a labeled dataset, with input-output pairs, and then makes predictions on new, unseen data. Unsupervised learning: where the system is not given labeled data, but instead must find patterns or features in the input data on its own. Reinforcement learning: where the system learns to make decisions by interacting with an environment and receiving feedback in the form of rewards or penalties. Machine learning is used in a variety of applications such as natural language processing, computer vision, speech recognition, recommendation systems, and many more.

How to ChatGPT

ChatGPT: It is a large language model that can perform a variety of natural language processing tasks, such as:

Text generation: generating human-like text based on a given prompt or context

Text completion: completing a partially written text

Text summarisation: summarising a given text to a shorter version

Text classification: classifying a given text into predefined categories

Text translation: translating a text from one language to another

Text answering: answering questions based on a given context

Text generation of code, poetry, song lyrics and many more.

Additionally, ChatGPT can be fine-tuned on specific tasks or domains, such as customer service, technical support, and creative writing, to improve its performance on those tasks.

It's important to note that while ChatGPT can generate human-like text, it is not a human and may make mistakes or misunderstand certain prompts. It is important to verify any information generated by the model before using it.

ChatGPT is a variant of the GPT (Generative Pre-training Transformer) model, developed by OpenAI.

GPT was first introduced in 2018 by a team of researchers at OpenAI, who trained the model on a large dataset of text from the internet. Since then, OpenAI has released several versions of the GPT model, including GPT-2 and GPT-3, with ChatGPT being one of the most recent versions.

The team behind GPT and its variants includes several prominent researchers in the field of natural language processing, such as Ilya Sutskever, Alec Radford, and Jeff Dean, among others. The development of the GPT model has been led by OpenAI, a research organization founded by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever and Wojciech Zaremba.

OpenAI, the organisation that developed ChatGPT, has made the model available for use through a commercial API, which allows users to access the model's capabilities through a web-based interface. The API requires a subscription and usage fee, which varies depending on the usage volume, the type of usage, and other factors.
However, OpenAI also provides some free access to the API, through a free-tier program, or through some partnership or research program, which allows developers and researchers to test and experiment with the model at a lower cost or even for free.
It's worth noting that the research version of the GPT-3 is open-source, meaning it is publicly available for anyone to download, use, and modify. However, the model is very large and requires considerable computational resources and expertise to train and fine-tune for specific tasks. So, it's not recommended for general usage.

Will ChatGPT be free?
ChatGPT, like other large language models such as GPT-2 and GPT-3, requires a significant amount of computational power to train and run.
The original version of GPT-2, which had 1.5 billion parameters, required 4 days of training on 8 NVIDIA V100 GPUs, with a batch size of 2048. This implies that a computational power of about 2 Petaflops is required for training.
GPT-3, which has 175 billion parameters, required several months of training on several thousand of high-performance GPUs, which is not accessible for most of the users.
While the exact computational requirements for ChatGPT may vary depending on the specific architecture and configuration of the model, it's safe to say that it requires a significant amount of computational power and resources to train and run.
It's worth noting that the computational power required to run a pre-trained model like ChatGPT is much lower than what is required to train it. The pre-trained model can be loaded into memory and run on a single high-performance GPU or even a standard CPU, which makes it more accessible to a wider range of users.

 How to login to ChatGPT?

6 simple tips on how to improve your email communications

Tips on how to write Emails

Tips on Writing Email

I had never thought I would write something about how to write an email in this blog. But recently came across few necessary tips on writing email and thought about sharing them here.
We do all write emails, to our friends, family and mostly for our official communications .Yet, we do not actually worry much about how we write them.
I have got few tips for you on writing emails to the point and not letting the email reader or recipient confuse on why it was actually written.

Tip #1:
Does your mail pass the "So What?" question

 Emails are written with a specific reason in mind. While writting you need to keep it concise and enough information for the reader so that they wont get lost. To make more sense out of your email, re-read your email once its drafted completely and ask yourself, does it answer "So What?" question. From reader's perspective: 'you told me all these info in your mail, so what?", ' do I need to do something about it or take any action item' , 'or will you be doing something about it?'
Make sure you address this information in your mail and change the information as needed.

Tip #2:
Change the Adjectives to Actual Data

Noone likes half cooked information! And if you are just vaguely saying, 'Sometimes it happens' OR 'Few of the items..' OR ' it had improved and its faster now..' , you are trying to express something but not enough to impress. If you dont give the data points with the information, it's not going to leave a major impact on the readers mind. Data is important while you express the staus.
It would make more sense if you say ' The quarterly results have seen surge of 40%' instead of 'We have improved the quartely results'

Tip #3:
Actually... not to use them

Continuing to Tip number 2, do not use the fillers like "Actually", "Basically", "Generally". They don't make much sense and adds vagueness to the writing. If you can put data here that is well and good, if not, try not to use them at all.

Tip #4:
Listen to your Active Voice

The active voice sentence are described as sentenses where the subject performs the action stated by the verb. It follows a clear Subject + Verb + Object (SVO) construct that's easy to read.  The more you complicate the sentense, the more confusing it would sound to the reader.

Tip #5:
Explain the short-forms

Remember to explicitly explain the short forms when writting them for the first time. For Example, if you are using a jargon CPR , CPC, CTM try to explain elaborate them if needed or mention the fullform next to them like Clickthrough rate (CTR), Cost-per-click (CPC), Cost-per-thousand (CPM).
It would not confuse them and would help the reader understand it better.

TIP #6:
30 or Less

Last but the important tip, try to keep the word count in a sentence under 30. Its not a rule of thumb but just a precautionary measure. If you want to write something like, "due to the fact that.." you can easily replace it with "because..".
You do not want to have a sentence like below one from the book "Blindness" which itself is 97 words long. If such sentenses are included in the mail, the reader might get lost in the words and might have to re-re-read to understand it.

Jose Saramago, “Blindness.” 97 words:

“On offering to help the blind man, the man who then stole his car, had not, at that precise moment, had any evil intention, quite the contrary, what he did was nothing more than obey those feelings of generosity and altruism which, as everyone knows, are the two best traits of human nature and to be found in much more hardened criminals than this one, a simple car-thief without any hope of advancing in his profession, exploited by the real owners of this enterprise, for it is they who take advantage of the needs of the poor.”

Few more quick one line tips before I wind-up this post...
  • A meaningful subject line.
  • Identify yourself.
  • Be kind.
  • Write it precise.
  • Always Proofread before sending.
  • Don’t assume that your email will be not be forwarded/shared.
  • Seperate formal and informal situations.
  • Show Respect and Restraint.
  • Prompt Response.
  • And add the senders names (i.e To list) only after proofreading

Do let me know if you like this post in the comments and share some other Tips if you've.

How to Setup SFTP server for Free

What exactly SFTP is? And how to Setup SFTP Server

SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) is a secure file transfer protocol and it runs over the SSH and comes with all auth and security that ssh supports. Now-a-days FTP or FTPS is getting replaced by SSH as FTP is considered as not so secure.

The SFTP protocol runs over the SSH protocol as a scheme and it was designed by Tatou Ylonen.
setup SFTP ServerSpecial thing about SFTP is , there are no ports exposed.

SFTP VS. FTPS

People usually wish to check SFTP vs. FTPS. FTPS is essentially the previous ftp protocol run over SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) or TLS (Transport Layer Security).

Benefits of FTP over SFTP includes,
FTPS is essentially FTP, which implies it's code mode, which might corrupt files if the mode isn't properly set and SFTP runs over SSH within the normal SSH port. Thus, no extra ports have to be compelled to be opened on the server and no extra authentication must be maintained. This simplifies configuration and reduces the probability of config errors.
FTPS wants sophisticated firewall configuration and might not work NAT. Ports 989 and 990 have to be compelled to be open.
FTPS needs an additional server software system package to be put in and patched, whereas SFTP comes with SSH.
What's more, FTPS supports each active and passive modes , that additional complicates firewall configurations and is susceptible to issues.
FTPS can't be used as a File system.

Here are easy steps to setup Free SFTP server

To setup the Free SFTP server you can download the Rebex Tiny SFTP server
from https://labs.rebex.net/tiny-sftp-server
And surprisingly, it is free for Commericial and Non-commercial purpose.
Once download is finished, unzip the zipped file and run the "RebexTinySftpServer.exe" file.
There would be another file named "RebexTinySftpServer.exe.config" file which is a server configuration file with below config settings available by default.
The configuration is straight-forward , key-value pair and easy to understand.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
<appSettings>
<!-- user and root dir -->
<add key="userName" value="sftpuser"/>
<add key="userPassword" value="sftpuser"/>
<add key="userRootDir" value="data"/>

<!-- user public keys for public key authentication (optional) -->
<add key="userPublicKeyDir" value=""/>

<!-- misc config -->
<add key="showUserDetailsOnStartup" value="true"/>

<!-- security -->
<add key="rsaPrivateKeyFile" value="server-private-key-rsa.ppk"/>
<add key="rsaPrivateKeyPassword" value="my-super-secure-password"/>

<add key="dssPrivateKeyFile" value="server-private-key-dss.ppk"/>
<add key="dssPrivateKeyPassword" value="my-super-secure-password"/>

<!-- port -->
<add key="sshPort" value="22"/>

<!-- start server when application is started? -->
<add key="autoStart" value="false"/>
</appSettings>

</configuration>

As SSH works on port 22 so config also has the same.
For further security , you can create RSA and DSA keys (.ppk) and provide the password in config which was used while creating the keys.
If you are not comfortable in creating the SSH keys, you can you this awesome free tool that runs on Windows called "PuttyGen" (a utility for RSA and DSA key generation )

Link to download : https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html

If you are working with any SFTP client and you are just looking for test connection with SFTP Server, you dont need to host one. Rebex has already provided a dummy sftp running server at
test.rebex.net  Use demo as username and password as password

Please Note: REBEX SFTP server store the password in clear text as you can see from the config file.
Do let me know if you have any other SFTP server that can be easily setup.

How to make mobile a webcam

Make your Mobile phone camera a Webcam

During this Corona virus Pandemic (Covid19), people have been asked to work for home and you will feel the need of having a webcam some or the other day. Teleconferencing gets easier when you see the other person face to face rather than having the voice converstation.
Not everyone has a laptop and not everyone has a Desktop PC with a Webcam. Now a days, not having a camera/webcamera is a big deal. Attending Zoom Calls,Skype Calls, Facebook Live streams and many other applications and website demands you to have a webcam.
How to make your mobile a webcameraWhen I say a webcam , its just a camera which can stream you over internet, hence the name 'web camera' aka webcam.

So, here I am going to tell you about a simple application that I have tried and tested to make your mobile phone as webcam and save money.
As I am talking about Skype video call, I think I should call this post of mine as "How to use Mobile phone as a webcam"

IP WEBCAM
This one is simple yet elegant application which you can install on your android phone from the Play Store.
IP Webcam turns your phone into a network camera with multiple viewing options. View your camera on any platform with VLC player or web browser. Stream video inside WiFi network without internet access.

Features include:
• Video can be uploaded directly to Dropbox, SFTP, FTP and Email using Filoader plugin
• Several web renderers to choose from: Flash, Javascript or built-in
• Video recording in WebM, MOV, MKV or MPEG4 (on Android 4.1+)
• Audio streaming in wav, opus and AAC (AAC requires Android 4.1+)
• Motion detection with sound trigger, Tasker integration.
• Date, time and battery level video overlay.
• Sensor data acquisition with online web graphing.
• Videochat support (video stream only for Windows and Linux via an universal MJPEG video streaming driver)
• Cloud push notifications on motion and sound, cloud recording for motion-triggered records, online video broadcasting powered by Ivideon.
• Extensive baby and pet monitor features: night vision, motion detection, sound detection.

Here is the link for IP WEBCAM. Install the app on your smartphone and Launch it.
There are plenty of things which are there in the mobile app, which you don't need to worry about.

Next Step is to Download the configuration software.
Download from https://ip-webcam.appspot.com/

After installing the PC app and launching it, below screen will be shown
Click on Auto Detect.

Settings window

If everything works fine, the camera will be available in Windows software. If something is wrong, please check your firewall rules and your network by visiting your network camera in a web browser.

For example, in skypeTry restarting your PC if it does not work.
After restart, launch any application
say Skype and you can then configure your skype with the IP Cam.
In Skype, Go to Tools - Options - Video Settings .
Here You need to choose, MJPEG Camera
And Baam!!! all done.

You can see your pretty cat over your PC by using your phone.

In the similar way, you can config any Streaming application . You just need to use MJPEG camera as a webcam source.

Another App I remember which you can use is,
DroidCam. It also has mobile app and a PC connectivity software.

Charge mobile faster with short USB cables

How to Charge mobile faster

How to Charge mobile faster

Recently I came across with an nice android app called "Ampere".
Yes, it displays the current flowing into your mobile i.e while charging and also the amount of current being consumed by your smartphone while discharging.
With this app running on my mobile, I ran an small experiment.

Here are my observations,

Scenario Charging or Not Min
Current
Max
Current
Laptop - USB long cable Laptop charging 770mA 840mA
Laptop - USB long cable On battery 750mA 780mA
Laptop - USB Short Cable On battery 1150mA 1180mA
Laptop - USB Short Cable Laptop charging 1150mA 1180mA

The same goes when charging using the chargers.
With long USB cable the charging current was 890mA and with short USB cable it was 1460mA.
Charger rating was Input--0.6A, Output -- 6V- 2000mA
Its clearly seen,there is difference of 400mA  and that's a bummer if you use long USB cable.
It can be easily concluded from above table as well that using Short USB cable to charge will definitely decrease the  charging time i.e will charge your mobile or another device quicker.
And also, it does not  matter whether your laptop is charging or not the power being drawn from the USB port of laptop remains almost same.

You can also download the app from here Ampere Android app
and can understand how fast your mobile is charging with the cable you have or do you need to replace your usb charging cable.

How to stream a movie without downloading it

How to directly Stream Movies using VLC

Everyone, now a days, prefer downloading a movie over the internet. But downloading and then watching a movie sometimes is not an option and then why would you want to keep the space occupied in your hard-disk when you would be watching it for only once.  What if, you want to quickly watch a movie without having a patience to download. Wouldn't that be great!
How to steam movie without downloadingThere is a sweet g33ktrick for doing that.
To start with, you need to have a VLC Player installed on your system.
You can download the player from here.

Now go to the website from where you are planning to download the movie /stream to watch. I've few links here consolidated which might help you.
Usually, websites have a separate download page/link for downloading. Go to that page.
And for downloading it, you usually click on "Download" button or "Right-Click" and then click on "Save Target As" to save the video.

VLC streaming online moviesSo, instead of following these steps, you need to "Right-Click" on the link and then select "Copy Link Address".
Once you have this link address you can use it for streaming the video directly.
Now, Open VLC player and press "CTRL+N" to open the Network Protocol screen.
Paste the copied link over here and then
click on Play button.
Wait for few moment to start the stream.
Please note that if your network bandwidth is really good you wont have to wait for buffering the stream. Also, its not necessary to use VLC player if you know where to paste the magic streaming link in some other player.

Tips on Go Green and Save Energy

How to Save Energy and Go Green

    Save Nature , go green
  • Avoid the car: When taking a short trip, choose to walk, cycle or use public transport. This reduces your carbon footprints and is also good for your health
  • Check your tyres: Fully inflated tyres can reduce a car's fuel emissions by up to 5%. Maths is the answer
  • Drive slower - and smoother: Staying within the speed limit and smoothly accelerating can save up to 25% of a vehicle's fuel use
  • Use energy-saving light bulbs: These compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) use up to 75% less energy and last 10 times longer. The LEDs are another great inventions and LEDs are the best option that we have for saving power
  • Switch off when you leave: Lighting an empty office wastes enough energy to boil water for 1,000 cups of coffee and doubles a company's annual electric bill
  • Recharge you batteries: If not disposed of carefully, batteries can be harmful to the environment due to the acids and metals used in their manufacture. Rechargeable batteries are safer, last longer and therefore cheaper
  • Go solar: It may seem expensive, but the government and many states offer programs and rebates to offset the costs
  • Turn out the Sun light: Switching off one bulb for one hour saves up to 22,000 watts per year
  • Keep your cool: It takes a refrigerator three minutes and a freezer 30 minutes of high-energy use to cool down after being opened for just one minute. So, try avoiding to keep the refrigerator open for more time un-wantedly
  • Unplug your charger: 95% of the energy used by a phone charger is wasted by being left plugged in
  • Make fast food: (Not the Fast-Food) Cooking quicker uses less energy - switch from the grill to the toaster, from the oven to the microwave
  • Consume responsibly: Avoid buying products that are excessively packaged
  • Print double-sided: Using both sides of the paper is highly effective and easy. It reduces your paper consumption by up to 50%. Again simple maths :)
  • Plant a tree: Trees make a big difference by continually removing carbon from the atmosphere. It is a worth while long-term in initiative. Although, just for fun fact - it's the algae around the globe that produces Oxygen more than the trees and plants.
  • Reduce paper consumption: Think before you print. On average, each worker uses 50 sheets a day. Recycle and reuse, or don't print
  • Take shorter showers: Making your shower one or two minutes shorter saves up to 2650 litres a month
  • Stop dripping: 10 drops a minutes wastes up to 6 litres of water everyday
  • Turn off the tap: Doing this when brushing teeth or shaving saves water, because a running faucet wastes 10 litres of water a minute
  • Bring out the clothesline: Take advantage of nature - a clothesline takes longer than a dryer but uses no energy, produces no emissions and is free! With each load, an electric dryer generates more than six pounds of greenhouse gases
  • Shop fresh: Fresh produce requires less packaging and can help improve your diet and overall health
  • Pay bills online: Easy and saves your time to go to billing location

How to get Nonencrypted password using Website Login Form

On Few websites you can just verify the password directly using the PHP or Java Script code.
Though not always , you can get the password with few easy steps.

1. Right-Click on the "Login Form" of the website which you want hack.
2. Select ''Inspect element''
3. Search for  ''
and then ''action=''  in the code

4. If the URL ends with  ''.js'' Bingo!!! you hit the bullseye. Just copy it and paste it in the URL bar of your browser.
And in-case if the URL ends with ''.php'', type ''view-source:'' before pasting the URL
Then search for  ''password'' in the source code.

WARNING: This method works better for .JS pages than with .PHP.
Sometimes, there is no URL after ''action='' you will find just a JS function.
Again view source and look for "password".

Energy or Power Saving Tricks

Everyone here on Earth want to save except few. Whether its money or life or other resources.
One of them is Power / Electricity / Energy and saving it is saving for our future generation.

1. Cooling

  • Close exterior doors and windows properly when the AC is in use.
  • Change or clean AC's air filters at least once in a month to keep your it running at optimum performance.
  • Always try to buy AC with High or Good Energy Ratings.
  • Block the sun from heating your home! Inside, use shades, blinds and drapes. Outside, use awnings, trees and shrubs.
  • If possible insulate the walls with foam insulation to so that heat is trapped
  • Keep the door inside home open, it will allow the free flow of air through the home.
  • Plant trees to provide shade on the sunny side of your home.
  • Try using ceiling fans more rather than ACs to cool, they dont need much electric power to run.But, make sure that you turn off the fans when you are not using it.

2. Appliances

  • Use microwaves to cook or warm leftovers. They use less energy compared to conventional ones.
  • If you are staying where temperature is already low, try to keep the refrigerator's cooling knob to low level. It will save good amount of energy.
  • Replace a refrigerator that was bought in 90s with an energy-efficient models.
  • Try to Keep the freezer full. It uses less energy than an empty one. For maximum savings, consider filling your freezer with gallon containers of water.
  • Choose energy-efficient appliances. They don’t just save you money, but they’re good for the environment because they use less energy.
  • Wash and dry several loads at once. It saves power. You can skip drying in machine when Sun is a free dryer available at your service.
  • Always match your pot size to the burner size on your cooking stove. Good amount of heat is lost in air when small pots are used on large burners.So, always try to use smaller burner.
  • Use tight-fitting covers on pots and pans when cooking on the stove to shorten your cooking time and save energy.
  • Turn off your burners when food is almost ready and let existing heat finish the cooking for you.
  • Whenever possible wash with full loads of clothes.
  • Set your dishwashers and washing machine on economy mode, to use less water and electricity.
  • Use copper bottomed pans and pots when cooking on the stove. Copper is good conductor of heat and gets heated up easily compared to another metals.

3. Electronics

  • Plug electronics into a power strips. So when you are done with one switch you can turn off all of them at once instead of forgetting to switch of particular one.
  • Unplug battery chargers when the batteries are fully charged or the chargers are not in use. Many chargers draw power continuously, even when the device is not plugged into the charger.
  • Consider buying a laptop instead of buying a computer. Laptop uses less power. In the Same way, buying LED TVs are good option but yeah they are costly.
  • Set your computer to sleep or hibernate mode instead of using a screen saver it saves electric when not in use.
  • Replace Old CRT monitors with LCD/LED ones.

Increase Browsing Speed

How to Boost your Internet Browsing Speed

Sometimes you might notice that your browsing speed just gone slow even though you are on high bandwidth connection.
Boost your Internet speed on Windows machine
So here is the solution to it.

To solve the issue of "my download speed is high but my browsing speed is low" try the following
g33k trick

Open Command prompt as an Administrator.
For that you need to Right click on CMD application and select "Run as Administrator" option

Now,
enter following

C:\windows\system32>netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces

Which results:

   MTU  MediaSenseState   Bytes In  Bytes Out  Interface
------  ---------------  ---------  ---------  -------------
4347436345      1          0        18327511   Loopback

  1500          1       746930     629532     WAN OR Local Area connection

Check the "Interface" column has WAN or Local Area Connection

Now ping the google.com server with below command

C:\windows\system32>ping www.google.com -f -l 1500

Which results:

Pinging www.google.com [216.58.196.100] with 1500 bytes of data:
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.

If you are seeing above print message , that means your system is set with wrong MTU value and which needs to be optimised.

To optimize the MTU value we need to do the following exercise until we get the optimum number
Ping google with another value less that 1500.

C:\windows\system32>ping www.google.com -f -l 1472

Which results:

Pinging www.google.com [216.58.220.36] with 1472 bytes of data:
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1472) time=133ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1472) time=58ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1472) time=67ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1472) time=63ms TTL=52

One More time:

C:\windows\system32>ping www.google.com -f -l 1460

Pinging www.google.com [216.58.220.36] with 1460 bytes of data:

Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1460) time=60ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1460) time=63ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1460) time=58ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1460) time=101ms TTL=52

Here you can notice the Time taken for packets for 1460 is 60ms and for 1472 it was 133
We can do more iterations to get the less time taken number.
For me MTU 1465 was giving good result.

C:\windows\system32>ping www.google.com -f -l 1465

Pinging www.google.com [216.58.220.36] with 1465 bytes of data:

Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1465) time=59ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1465) time=61ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1465) time=62ms TTL=52
Reply from 216.58.220.36: bytes=64 (sent 1465) time=65ms TTL=52

Once you know the MTU optimum number, you can set it via command line with below command.

C:\windows\system32>netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=1465 store=persistent

In case you have WAN as an interface you need to type following command.

C:\windows\system32>netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "WAN" mtu=1465 store=persistent

Thats all!!!
Hope you will notice the speed change in browsing webpages.
